Project Description
Ashfield Retaining Wall
Ashfield Retaining Wall consists of two long retaining walls either side of Ashfield Bridge.
A 14m long section of the northern wall had completely collapsed following recent heavy rain. The remaining sections of wall were in poor condition and had partially collapsed in places. The wall was also heavily overgrown with brambles and ivy.
Repair was needed as soon as possible to the retaining walls and parapets to restore structural integrity and to restore the load carrying capacity of the structure.
Excavation of the fill supporting the existing carriageway and opposing retaining wall was required to construct a new reinforced concrete retaining wall. Sections of damaged masonry were rebuilt and extensive repointing was undertaken
