Spearpoint Bridge carries a local road over the Aughnabrisky River in South County Carlow. It is a single span composite steel and reinforced concrete structure. There were concerns with the load carrying capacity of the deck following a Principal Inspection which found a number of significant cracks to the soffit of the deck. MMConsult undertook a structural assessment of the structure in accordance with the TII Stage 1 Assessment Methodology Report (Revision C) and the methods outlined in the UK Highways Agency Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (BA16/97 & BD21/01) following on-site structural investigations.
