Project Description
Birchgrove Bridge
Birchgrove Bridge carries a local road over the Tonet River, 5km west of Camross, Co. Laois. The structure is located on a remote local road in a wooded area.
The existing composite steel and concrete deck had suffered severe corrosion, had deflected and was deemed incapable of carrying the required loading.
The original two-span structure was replaced with a single-span filler beam deck and the existing abutments were upgraded.
A ground investigation and topographical survey were undertaken as part of the design stage.
The parapets which were inadequate in both height and containment values were also upgraded with NRA standard P2 vehicle containment parapets.
