Project Description
Twoford Bridges
The Twoford Bridges are a series of two bridges, both of which are seven span masonry arch bridges on the L4123 over the River Suir 3km southwest of Holycross, Co. Tipperary. The north bridge has an overall length of 33.15m from abutment to abutment, the south has an overall length of 37.80m.
North Bridge: Remedial work was required to the arch barrels and piers. The piers had suffered erosion damage in particular to the upstream cutwaters and there were major circumferential cracks to the larger arch barrels of the centre spans of the structure. Remedial works were also required to the spandrel walls on the east of the structure.
South Bridge: Remedial work was required to the arch barrels and piers. The existing composite steel and concrete deck was replaced with a composite precast concrete and in-situ concrete deck. The piers had suffered erosion damage in particular at the southern end. There were major circumferential cracks to the larger arch barrels of the structure at the upstream ends of the centre spans. Remedial works was also required to the spandrel wall and parapet on the east of the structure.
